Homeowners Held Hostage By A Bobcat

Bobcats Orange County CA

Bobcats are beautiful but dangerous, especially to house pets.

Homeowners are literally being held hostage by a bobcat that has taken up residence between homes in San Diego County. This bobcat is protecting her three young cubs and is showing no signs of leaving any time soon.

Bobby Caughey said, “Our dogs were outside and they were playing around and then we heard a scream. I came outside, and there’s a bobcat face looking right back at me.” In sheer panic, he picked up a tricycle and threw it towards the bobcat. One of his dogs had to be taken to a vet to have stitches put on his legs and stomach. His family also found raccoon fur by their pool, and they believe that the bobcat was behind the killing.

The other neighbor, Bri Hurtado, also had one of her dogs attacked. “We only saw two puncture wounds, so we thought it was a snake,” she said. However, once her dog was taken in for treatment and they found a total of thirteen wounds, the vet knew that something much larger was at play.

“Our neighborhood has left multiple messages with multiple agencies and nobody seems to want to respond to the fact that in this very urban area, a bobcat has taken up residence,” Hurtado said. Her mother says that wildlife officials have told her that it is illegal to trap and relocate bobcats.

What are these people supposed to do? How long are they going to have their family and pets locked up inside of their homes?

Please excuse me for being cynical, but I believe that if this was happening to one of our fine politicians or a Hollywood celebrity, the problem would have already vanished. It’s nice to know that our officials care so much about the rest of us.
