National Stress Awareness Month

April is National Stress Awareness Month and this is a great time to relax, renew and rejuvenate yourself.

Long-term stress can lead to a wide range of illnesses – from headaches to stomach disorders. It can also increase the risk of stroke and heart disease.stress

We all need to take this problem seriously and make some adjustments. Here are a few tips that can make a dramatic improvement in your life:

  • You need to recognize when you don’t have control and learn to let it go.
  • Don’t let yourself become anxious about situations that you cannot change.
  • Treat your body right. Eat good food and get regular exercise.
  • Set realistic and obtainable goals.
  • Determine your priorities and let some of the less important stuff go.
  • Break big jobs into little projects. This will keep you from getting so overwhelmed and will give you a sense of accomplishment when you complete each step.
  • Take a short break, breathe deeply and let your mind slow down for a few minutes. This will really help you handle stress better.
  • Don’t eat while you’re working. Stop, relax and enjoy your food.
  • Learn to say no. There comes a time in everyone’s life when you’ve reached your limit and you really shouldn’t try and do anymore.
  • Share time with loved ones and talk it out. This will help for you to see things more clearly, get rid of negative feelings and help you get the emotional support you need.

Avoiding stress is something that is not always possible. However, we can all minimize our stress levels by changing how we choose to respond to it. It’s time to let go of stress, have some fun and start enjoying yourself – you’ve only got one life to live.
