Rat Burgers…The Next Big Food Craze?

rodent burger

Eating a rat for dinner is something most Americans would never consider, but that’s not the case in Russia, where Muscovites are devouring them in chic restaurants.
Nutria, commonly referred to as “river rats”, are giant orange-toothed rodents that originated in South America. They’ve been a staple in southern Russia for years and are said to be both nutritious and easy to cook.

Are you looking for some exotic cuisine? Then you should go to Moscow’s Krasnodar Bistro where they serve nutria burgers, nutria sausage and nutria dumplings wrapped in cabbage leaves. The diners say that they can’t get enough of these furry creatures!

Chef and restaurateur, Takhir Kholikberdiev, developed this concept. He doesn’t think people should be squeamish about eating rat. Burgers made from Nutria look like most burgers. Takhir says that these burgers are simple, tasty and full of nutrients. He’s currently selling them for only $8.50 each.

Takhir’s restaurant has received glowing reviews from its customers. One reviewer said, “Just to reiterate this: it’s 2016 and you can eat a rat burger just a few hundred meters from the Kremlin!”

The rat burger craze has spread throughout the country and now, you can even purchase this rat meat at the local markets.

Are you ready to try eating one of these rat burgers? Don’t know about you, but after having to deal with rat problems in people’s homes all day, I think I’ll pass. In case you were wondering, I don’t eat raccoon pie, possum stew or fried squirrel, either . . . lol.
