Amazon Services Busted For Selling Illegal Pesticides

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced an agreement with Amazon Services, to protect the public from the hazards posed by unregistered and misbranded pesticide products.

The agreement settles allegations that Amazon committed nearly four thousand violations of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). These violations dated back to 2013, and were for selling and distributing imported pesticide products that were not licensed for sale in the U.S.

Pesticide products that are sold or distributed without a valid EPA registration are referred to as illegal pesticides. Only certain minimum risk products are exempt from having to be registered.

The list of cited products included: “3pcs Cockroach Bugs Ants Roach Kills Chalk”, “Miraculous Insecticide Chalk”, “HUA Highly Effective Cockroach Killer Bait Powder”, “RBTZ Safe Highly Effective Roach Killer Bait Powder”, and “Green Leaf Fly Killing Bait”.
As part of the agreement, Amazon will develop a special safety training course to help protect the public, and pay a penalty of $1,215,700.
